Small Town Celebration

I have to brag on our little town. They made the 4th of July a day of hometown celebration. Lynn and I went to the riverwalk to eat lunch. We knew that the Lions Club had their tenderloin booth set up so we decided that was where we would eat lunch. Their tenderloins are wonderful.
The fire department and the mayor’s office planned a day of events that started with the soapbox derby. There was a hula hoop contest, watermelon seed spitting contest and a gunny sack three legged race. We happened to see the hula hoop contest while eating our sandwiches. Did you know that Luling, Texas has been hosting an annual Watermelon Thump every June since 1954? Each year, people try to beat the record in the seed spitting championship. Watermelon spitting in Luling is serious business.
We stopped at a vegetable stand and bought a musk melon and fresh ears of corn to have with our dinner that night. We had parked our car at the church and walked to the river walk. That meant we even got our walk in for the day.

I have many opinions about many things. Let me know what you think.
