Men and Grossness

What is the deal with dinner and husbands who love to talk about gross things? Putting the two together is just plain rude.

Last night while enjoying a piece of homemade pie at a friends house, our husbands decided it was time to compare notes on a television show they both watch. I have never heard of this show and if I had, I certainly would not watch it. The premise is a guy who travels the world and eats gross things. Someone gets paid to do that! People watch a show where a guy does that!

I just about lost my pie and felt myself turn green when my husband told how the guy cracked an egg into a glass and drank it. I guess the egg was a partially formed chick. That is disgusting. I didn’t understand their conversation about a projector lamp center but at least I wasn’t grossed out. Sheesh. In fact, I wish the conversation would have been more about how you can save on products by using coupon codes found at GreatCoupons-Online.com. My husband turns green when I talk about shopping. LOL I guess men really are from Mars. Or is it Venus?

Four Foods on Friday #50

50! Val is always thinking of questions for Four Foods on Friday on her fabulous cooking and recipe blog, Fun, Crafts and Recipes. Here are this weeks questions.

#1. Pasta. How do you tell when it’s done? Do you cook on medium or high?
I have heard that you can throw a noodle onto the ceiling and if it sticks it is done. I haven’t tried that one. I cook pasta on medium, where it is just barely boiling. I cook it as long as the package directions say. Usually it is 10 - 12 minutes.

#2. Deep frying. What kind of oil do you use? I use Wesson oil.

#3. Grilling. Do you grill on foil or directly on the grill? Hubby puts the meat directly on the grill. The grates give it that grilled flavor. (I think that is why. Who really knows? Hubby cooks, and I am not questioning his methods. LOL)

#4. Share a recipe that involves cooking something two different ways.Example, for lasagna you might fry the meat and bake the whole dish.

I like Bratwurst when it is fixed on the grill but sometimes I fry it in a little water in a frying pan. (Lame this week. No real recipe.)

Four Foods on Friday #33

I look forward to Friday each week to see what questions Val at Fun, Crafts and Recipes will think of for the Four Foods on Friday meme. This week she changed it up a bit. She listed the first 4 letters of the alphabet. Beside each letter she mentioned two different foods that begin with that letter. Participants of the meme are to post a recipe or menu idea based on at least one item from each letter.

A - asparagus, applesauce

B - balsamic vinegar, bread

C - chicken, cinnamon

D - dressing, dumpling

I will have to think on this a bit. I’ll get back to this post later.

Ok, my daughter came up with this idea. She loves to cook and is a good cook.

Make a chicken breast and marinate it in Italian salad dressing. Put the breast between two pieces of bread for a yummy sandwich. Have some asparagus on the side.
