Karen’s Opinion

In June of 2006, we had a very bad hail storm and it did a lot of damage to our house. We had all that fixed and everything looks very nice except our fence. We had to move part of our fence so that the tree man, if that is what he is called, could cut all the dead limbs out of two large trees in our backyard. The hail had made a big mess of those two trees. The fence was one my husband constructed several years ago and was very pretty. It is not pretty now. Over the years, the posts have rotted and the fence is leaning. I think it is time for a new one. One of our employees continues to park next to that fence. That is probably not the smartest choice of parking spots.

Here is an unexpected tackle for today. Hubby put a humongeous pork butt in the refrigerator. He did not realize that the package was leaking. The juices ran down into the drawer where we keep all of our bottled water. So, I get to wash all the bottles and clean the drawer. Sigh….

Are there certain things that conjure up memories of things that were hidden way down in a folder in your brain? When we were visiting Epcot in Florida a few weeks ago, we passed a mirror that I did not like. This mirror was concaved so that it made a person look short and fat. I hate those mirrors. I think there should be a law against them.

When I was in elementary school, we lived in Tacoma, Washington. Mom and Dad were always fixing something on the house. Things like plumbing and working on the landscaping were always happening. It seemed as if Dad always worked on electrical projects during cartoon time. He probably didn’t intentionally pick those times but it seemed to a 9 or 10 year old that he did. Well, with all the projects going on, Mom and Dad were always at the hardware store. This was not a typical hardware store. I reminded me of our Big Lots of today. I wish I could remember the name of this store. It had a circus theme. You could find anything related to fixing up and making repairs to your home. When you walked into the store they had gumball machines lining one wall and mirrors on another wall. The mirrors seemed funny back then because I was a tall skinny kid. Mom always took a tuck in the waistband of my pants to keep my pants from falling off. Back to the mirrors, while Mom and Dad shopped, we kids would stand in front of those mirrors and act silly. There were mirrors that made you look eight feet tall and mirrors that made you look squatty. It seemed hilarious at the time.

In honor of Tackle it Tuesday I have made myself promise to gather up all of our tax papers and get things ready to take it all to the accountant. I already have it spread out on my desk. I need to total up the inventory and fill in the blanks for other things like how much interest we paid on any loans etc. It is all there, I just need to write it down. Sheesh! Can I procrastinate any longer? I think I am about to set a record.

When I checked mom’s house on Sunday, I looked out into her sun porch to make sure everything looked fine. It did. She had the room enclosed with real windows instead of screens. It has made such a cozy room. Fortunately, the previous owners of her house saved some vinyl siding from when the house was built. The whole makeover went smoothly.
