NMEDA Leads Disabled to Independence

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

My mom has been getting her house ready for company. My aunt and uncle will be arriving from California in a few days. There are beds to be made and toilets to clean but those have not been the difficult tasks to accomplish. Those are the easy tasks.

My uncle is disabled. That makes getting around very difficult. We started looking around mom’s house and realize that it is going to be difficult for Uncle Bill to get into the house let alone move from room to room. Have you ever thought about the obstacles the disabled face on a day to day basis?

Fortunately a NMEDA dealer can help the elderly or disabled get back onto the road of independence. NMEDA, “National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association”, has been a godsend for many families. What is NMEDA? They are an association that promotes safe driving and equipment for disabled people. They do not sell anything. They are non-profit and their members are required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NMEDA dealers (members) are the ones who sell handicap vans and vehicle modifications for disabled people.

The NMEDA also has Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealers who insure the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry meets accreditation standards.

What does this mean to those families of disabled persons? The NMEDA assists the elderly or disabled and enables them to get back onto the road of independence. Visit the website at nmeda.org to find a qualified dealer near you. By simply entering our zip code, I was able to find over 20 mobility dealers in our state!

Effective for Babies, Helpful for Adults

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. All opinions are 100% mine.

When it comes to our babies, we are all concerned with keeping them healthy and feeling their best. No matter how hard I tried, my babies got diaper rashes. Boudreaux’s Butt Paste came to my rescue! It was so successful at healing diaper rashes that I kept it around to use when the kids smooth skin became chaffed because of those cute little fat rolls they had. It seemed like a miracle cure to me. Now, I wonder if it would help our installers keep their hands from becoming chaffed and sore. Boudreaux’s Butt Paste seals out wetness, spreads on easily, cleans off quickly and has a pleasant scent. No one would even know it was meant for babies! Our guys need to protect their hands too. Their hands are constantly in water as they cut ceramic and work with moist grout. Their poor hands have split and cracked skin. Boudreaux’s might be just the ticket for protection of their skin.

Do Sweat Bees Sting?

I have been wondering if I was stung by a regular bee or a sweat bee while working in my flower bed last weekend. I didn’t think sweat bees would sting but I am wondering because I felt a stinging sensation inside my glove and when I pulled the glove off, a sweat bee fell to the dirt. My hand never did swell, thank goodness.

I did some research on sweat bees and found that sweat bees are black, brown, red, or metallic green, and sometimes with yellow markings, and usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch (4-10 mm) in size. The one I saw was black and yellow and was about a 1/4 inch in size. The Wikipedia article went on to say that they will sting if squeezed or squashed against one’s flesh. Aha! Sweat bees will sting. The sting is not painful and poses no risk unless one is allergic to bee or any kind of insect sting.

Contest Winners

Although the contest has ended, I got a kick out of visiting the website for the Gotta See This Now iLASIK Video Contest. There are some very talented videographers with cool and inventive ideas about the benefits of Lasik eye surgery. Entrants made videos showing the impact of improved vision on their lives for a chance to win cash and prizes — including a $5,000 Grand Prize. The contest was sponsored by Abbott Medical Optics Inc.

I am already sold on Lasik eye surgery, having had the surgery done myself a few years ago. It has been wonderful to wake up in the morning and see the world without having to put on a pair of glasses. No longer do I have to deal with my glasses fogging up when coming out of doors into a warm building. I also love being able to see underwater when swimming in the ocean. What an amazing view there is to behold when you can actually see!

There were three categories in the iLASIK Video Contest.

Category 1: My Contacts Are Getting In The Way Of My Good Time
Category 2: My Favorite Sport Or Activity Would Be So Much Cooler With Better Vision
Category 3: You Should See Life After The iLASIK® Procedure

Here is one of the videos from a first place recipient:

Congratulations to the winners! All the videos were awesome, in my opinion, making the participants all winners in my book.

Tuna! The Healthy Choice

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of HealthyTuna.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

Bring up the subject of pregnancy and you hear tales from everyone.

Woman sues pharmacy after eating contraceptive jelly fails to prevent pregnancy.
During the Civil War, a woman was impregnated by sperm carried on a bullet that passed through the scrotum of a soldier and penetrated her ovaries.

Those tales are easy to roll our eyes at and shake them off as crazy fool’s tales.

There are the well meaning tales from those who try to help women who are pregnant. They tell about the horrible pain and give all sorts of advice to the expecting parents. My advice to expectant parents: don’t read any books on pregnancy. Don’t read books on how to raise children. Let advice from others go in one ear and out the other.

One such item of misinformation given to pregnant women has been that it is unhealthy to eat fish while pregnant. While it is true that fish high in mercury counts should be avoided, scientific studies have shown that healthy tuna is important for pregnant women and for the healthy growth and development of small children. Eating fish has been shown to help with depression and other health issues.

I have always fixed tuna sandwiches and made tuna casserole to feed my family. My husband thought that tuna casserole was about the only thing I knew how to cook when we were first married. LOL Now he reminds me to make it once in awhile!

TUNA CASSEROLE

Cook noodles in boiling salted water until al dente, about 6 minutes. Drain and refresh under cold running water. Drain and set aside.

Mix one can of mushroom soup with a can or one cup of milk. Add one small can of sliced mushrooms and approximately 1/2 teaspoon of coarse black pepper. Add one small package of frozen peas. Heat all ingredients in a saucepan until just boiling.

In a medium casserole dish, add sauce mixture to the cooked noodles and lightly toss. Bake for 20 minutes at 350°F.

Crush Ruffle potato chips and sprinkle over the top of the casserole. Replace into oven and brown the crumbs under the broiler.
Serve and enjoy!
