Golden Finches

PhotobucketI have put out thistle seed for the finches all summer long. Just recently, they have gone crazy with their eating habits. They might need prolotherapy Arizona if they keep pigging out like they have been.

It is inexpensive to feed finches and I have so much fun watching them boot each other off the feeder perches. I don’t know how they decide their pecking order but they do a lot of pushing. LOL

Most recently, I have found that they like my purple cone flowers. All of my flowers are drying out which makes the seeds more attractive to the birds. It is so funny to look out across my flower bed and see the flowers bouncing up and down. Finches have agile feet to grip the stems of seed heads while feeding. They carry and spread the seeds across my yard causing sprouts of flowers in some strange places.

Doves seem to enjoy eating the castoff seeds that fall from the feeder. Is it true that doves always travel in pairs?

My hummingbird food went to waste this year. I put it out late in the season and by the time the hummingbirds found my feeder, it seemed that they had no interest. I’ll have to remember to put it out right away come spring.

I have enjoyed watching the birds this summer and fall. I hate to see winter arrive. I’ll bet the birds do too.

We Love Our Dogs

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hills Pet Nutrition for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

My husband and I went away for the weekend and left our two dogs in my mom's care. She really babied them and even let them sleep in her bed! You would think they would rather live with Grandma but they really missed us. They almost cried when they saw us. I love them.

Stay in School, Stay in Touch

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TracFone for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I know, it used to be a spoiled rotten kid who had a cell phone but these days, it is a necessity. Times have changed and it is good that our kids can be safe and able to keep in touch with us.

I watched American Pickers on television a few weeks ago and on that episode, Frank and Mike visited a collector of phones. This man had phones dating back to the switchboard days. He had working phones and switchboards in his collection. He also had one of the first cell phones. It was the size of a loaf of bread and the cost to buy one in those days was around $3000.00! We have come a long way baby!

These days, one can get a great phone with so many features like a camera/video recorder, web access, app capabilities, mp3 player, and a full QWERTY keyboard, for $29.99. That is a small price to pay for peace of mind. If you don't want to go with a phone service that requires you to sign a contract, check out a TracFone. Many real TracFone customers have chosen TracFone where you can pay as you go or sign up for a yearly fee at a low price.

Don't think you have to give up service or the ability to have a cool phone. With TracFone real TracFone customers are able to have brand name phones from all the leading manufacturers. You can go as plain as you want or get fancy with a cool Bluetooth®-enabled "Smart" phone.

I’m sorry that I haven’t posted for a bit but I have been sewing! I’ll show you a few of my projects after they are finished. Right now, my sewing machine is being serviced. It was starting to talk back to me so I decided it needed a good cleaning. I have it cleaned once a year so that it runs like new.

Our weather finally broke and we have been having some nice, cool days. I was so sick of temperatures being in the nineties. Ninety is too hot to do anything outside. This weather makes me want to go on a picnic and be outside enjoying nature. I finally put my hummingbird feeder out. I think the hummingbirds gave up on me. They probably thought I was researching energy deregulation but in reality I simply forgot! Now that the feeder is out there, I have seen a few hummingbirds sniff the thing but they don’t stop to sip. I am going to put fresh liquid in the feeder to see if that is the problem. I don’t think I would want to sip sour sugar water either.

I feel out of kilter today. I got a vanilla coke to drink while getting my hair done this afternoon and I think the sugar got to me. My head feels fuzzy. I can’t wait to go to bed.
