I am taking a break from working on a baby quilt, which you can see on my Winding Threads blog. I heard on our local news that the Girl Scouts are holding their convention in our state. The Girl Scouts have converged on Indianapolis! Last week it was the Future Farmers of America. This week the gals in green have arrived. Oh my!

Tomorrow is the day that most of us will be thinking about all those little kids ringing our doorbells and shouting “trick or treat.” Another reason to celebrate is that tomorrow is Julliette Low’s birthday. Julliette, center in picture, founded the Girl Scouts of America back in 1912. On March 12, 1912, Juliette gathered 18 girls to register the first troop of American Girl Guides. The organization was incorporated in 1915, with Juliette serving as president until 1920 when she was granted the title of founder. Wikipedia tells how she was known for being eccentric and charming. She was only the eighth woman to be honored with a U. S. postage stamp. There have been three Girl Scout U.S. postage stamps.

When my son was in high school, he had an English teacher that moved here from New York. I wondered what brought him to Indiana from such a northern state. My son found out that his teacher had met his wife on the Internet and moved here, to her home state, after their marriage. This was when I began hearing of more and more connections being made through the Internet.

We are a family of four and, let me tell you, buying eyeglasses is something we definitely have to plan and budget for. We are also self employed, so vision insurance isn’t always an option. I just telephoned my sister to chat and she informed me that she couldn’t talk right now, she was busy watching the Chicago White Sox playing against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It’s the first game of their playoffs and she didn’t want to miss it. I can understand, although, I’d probably choose to root for the Chicago Cubs before rooting for the White Sox.

A few years ago my husband and I were invited to attend a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field in Chicago and so, for sentimental reasons, I still find myself rooting for them. I’m not a big sports fan, but I do enjoy baseball now and then. My sister and her family used to live in a suburb southwest of Chicago and so, they root for the White Sox. They lived there in 2005 when the Sox won the World Series and they’re hoping to see that happen again, even though they now reside in Texas.

So, I’m rooting for the Cubs, my sister’s rooting for the Sox and our mom is a big fan of the Seattle Mariners. Who do you root for?
