Realize Your Dreams Like Ryan Kannett

When I was using the restroom at the sporting goods store on Saturday, (I know, I know, I shouldn’t read the wall graffiti), I saw a message that is poignant. It said something like, don’t just dream about something, do something. Don’t say you are too old to do something. How old will you be five years from now when you look back and say, gee, I wish I’d become a nurse or whatever it is that is your dream? The wall graffiti was referring to running a marathon. Many of us think about running a marathon but never take that first step.

I happened upon a person who knew at a young age that they were going to be a worldwide traveler. It was in his blood. He did not know, at that age, how traveling would become his passion. He has been to many counties and sees each place to its fullest. He gets the training to scuba dive in the ocean, trains to climb the mountain and experiences the majestic scenery our world has to offer. Now, this world traveler, Ryan Kannett, is looking forward to a trip to New Zealand to see what it offers to satisfy his need for adventure.

That is what I am talking about. When I was in my twenties, I felt as if I had all the time in the world. Now, I am reaching fifty-five and I don’t want to look back with regrets. Life is too short so get out there and go for your dream.

Man Who Won’t Shop for Clothes

Main Entry: pac·i·fist
Pronunciation: \?pa-s?-fist\
Variant(s): or pac·i·fis·tic \?pa-s?-?fis-tik\
Function: adjective
Date: 1908

1 : of, relating to, or characteristic of pacifism or pacifists
2 : strongly and actively opposed to conflict and especially war

— pac·i·fis·ti·cal·ly \?pa-s?-?fis-ti-k(?-)l?\ adverb

I had to be a bully on Saturday. I am a pacifist. One who opposes conflict. I go with the flow, most generally. I made up my mind that my husband was going to buy some new clothes whether he liked it or not. We have a wedding to attend and he cannot fit into his pants. He has had those pants for ten years. It is time for new ones anyway! So, I pushed and he relented. He now has a new sport coat, shirt, tie, slacks and a pair of casual shorts. Oh, and the most amazing thing, he bought new tennis shoes that aren’t all white. He is stylin’. I am worn out.

PS the shorts and tennis shoes are not for the wedding

Flowers for a Lost Friend

When I was a young girl, our family moved a lot. My dad was in the military and that meant that when orders were given, we were packed up and shipped to a new base. Luckily, my oldest sister and I are only a year apart in age so we had each other to confide in and give each other the courage needed to walk into a new school.

When my dad was stationed in California, my sister was high school age whereas I was still a middle schooler. That meant I had to face the unfamiliar alone. That is why I was so happy to find a neighbor girl who was my age. Her name was even the same as mine and she was the middle child same as me! I could not believe how lucky I was! I found a new confidante.

I have often wondered about that friend. I have looked her up on Facebook and Classmates.com but have not been able to find her. If I ever do, find her, I would love to call 1800flowers.com and have their flower delivery service surprise her with a bouquet.

She was a great friend and I truly miss her.

Out With the Old Stuff

I have been cleaning out closets and drawers like a maniac. Sometimes it hits me that I have too much stuff. I will probably regret throwing away some things but I don’t have the time to sell them on Ebay and I hate having yard sales. Hubby says I should keep the Nintendo because it will surely be valuable. Do you think so? Well, let someone venture into Goodwill and have the fun of buying it at a low price.

Does anyone have picnics anymore? I used to pack lunch boxes for the kids, lay a blanket out on the lawn and have a picnic with them. It was fun to drink Koolaid out of a thermos.

I gave this to Goodwill a few years ago. These days, they call it “vintage”. Sigh.

Giftcards Make It Easy

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of FriendGiftr. All opinions are 100% mine.

My son’s birthday and father’s day are approaching soon and I am wondering what to get each person, my son and husband, to celebrate the occasion.

I recently happened upon a terrific site that makes buying gift cards easy. At FriendGiftr, I can buy and send either digital or real gift cards from over 120 retail sites! What makes it different when buying gift cards through FriendGiftr is that the recipient can exchange the gift card for one that suits them. That makes it so easy to ensure the recipient gets a gift card they will use and enjoy.

For example, say I buy my son a $25 gift card to Applebee’s but he never has time to eat at Applebee’s because it is too far from where he lives. He can exchange it for a gift card to use at the theater instead!
