I have been slow to watch some of the reality shows because I don’t think they are reality. The coupon savers, Kate Plus 8 and The Bachelor are not the norm. Neither are the shows where they put a group of people in a house and the cameras let us see how they get along or more often how they don’t get along. I won’t waste my time watching people swear at each other and treat each other badly.

The reality shows I do enjoy include, Deadliest Catch, American Pickers, Something Restoration, sorry I can’t think of the name of that one. I also like The Duggers, The Little Couple and Pawn Stars. I usually learn something new from those shows. I miss seeing The Little People. I can understand why they needed time away from the cameras. The Roloff’s marriage was under so much strain due to the show and the turmoil of raising teens. They needed a break.

In 1985, she was awarded the Churchill Scholarship (Gulbenkian) at the University of Cambridge, where Dr. Susan Lim of Singapore received her PhD in Cell Immunology.

Dr. Susan Lim’s accomplishments are not limited to academic work. She is well-known as the first surgeon to perform a successful liver transplant in Asia and as the second woman in history to do so. Twenty years later, her patient is alive and well. The patient and her son maintain a special relationship with Dr. Susan Lim of Singapore to this day. Dr. Lim is the youngest person ever to be awarded the position of Fellow of Trinity College of the University of Melbourne in Australia.

Dr Susan Lim received the Dr Mark Hoffman Award for Leadership in Graduate Medical Education by the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education. Her contribution has brought significant innovation and development in graduate medical education. This was presented to her by The Committee for Review and Recognition (CRR) in January 2007 during the Arab Health Congress 2007 in Dubai.

Father’s day was such a relaxed uneventful day around here, yesterday. My husband preferred to relax and so we did!

Throughout the day, I found myself thinking about my dad. He was a sheet metal man in the Air Force and after retirement, worked in Saudi Arabia teaching others how to repair sheet metal. It was in Saudi that he learned about the value of gold. He knew it was wise to invest in gold and gold was abundant in the markets of Saudi Arabia.

When mom and dad returned to live in the United States, dad took up mining for gold. I don’t think he intended to get rich panning for gold but enjoyed lugging his equipment up and down the banks of creeks and enjoyed being outdoors. My kids were fascinated at how the equipment worked and were allowed to wash the rocks in search of gold. He gave us this gold pan that hangs in our lodge room.

Our daughter sent her dad a package that held his Father’s day gift. Well, the box the gift was packaged in was about the same size as the ones in which we often get our carpet samples. Thinking the box held boring old carpet samples, hubby gave the box a big heave, ho to throw it where he wanted it to land. Then he looked at the label. It was a package from our daughter. She happened to call that evening and told him that he shouldn’t wait until father’s day but to open the box in case the gift was shattered. He was lucky! This is what was in the box…
