One of the perks with my job is going out to measure for floor covering in homes and businesses. Today, my husband is measuring at a lake cottage in a town north of us. It is a beautiful day and I am enjoying the scenery. Lake Manitou is a man-made lake in Rochester, Indiana, created in 1767 by the Potowatomi Native American tribe. The name “Manitou” derives from the Potawatomi word for both “good spirit” and “evil spirit.” The Potawatomi tribes fished and hunted in this area for 150 years. They believed that the waters of Lake Manitou harbored a monster fish or serpent with supernatural powers. The lake is spring fed and provides activities such as fishing, boating, jet skiing, water skiing, swimming, and picnicking. Many people enjoy bird watching, letting their children splash in a beautiful fountain dedicated to veterans and simply relaxing in this quaint little town.

I can’t believe I am showing this picture but this is what I have been forced to wear in order to keep my sanity on this fishing trip. Hubby and I arrived in Southern Indiana yesterday for a much anticipated few days of fishing. This area is infested with biting gnats. They have been killing the deer in the area because they get into their nostrils and cause problems. What a mess.

We have caught a few fish and the weather has been awesome. I am doing some research on what brought the gnats to this area and what can be done about them. It is hurting the tourism in this area. What used to be known for great fishing and hunting has become a nightmare of bug infestation over the past three years. It is a shame.

Maybe it is my age but it seems as though the days fly by! We are half way through May and soon June will be officially here. I hope that means that we can count on summer weather. My husband and I are leaving in the morning to go fishing. I have said I refuse to go if it rains but I think I might have to suck it up and wear a rain suit. The things we do for our husbands! LOL

Father’s day is approaching and it is time to put some thought into picking out a great father’s day gift. My brother in law loves watches so I would think he would be easy to buy for. I found a great website that I need to tell my sister about. They have watches with Tritium illumination in the hands. Self activated light in any darkness is a feature I’m sure my brother in-law would like. He is interested in quality watches with Precise Swiss Quartz movements with stylish looks. I don’t know how many watches he has acquired over the years but I’m certain he would appreciate another quality watch to add to his collection. My husband would want the latest and greatest barbeque utensil. How about your husband? What would bring a smile to his face?

Over the many years of having my hair try its best to turn gray, I have frequented many beauty salons. I have seen a big difference in the professionalism of each shop I have visited. The shop I go to regularly is run by my friend and she does a terrific job on my hair. If she were not my friend, I am not sure I would have my hair done in her shop. After visiting other shops and seeing how professional they are in their attitudes and cleanliness, my hairdresser could use a few tips.

Thankfully, there are organizations in each state formed to guide graduates of beauty schools and are working to influence each state’s beauty and barbering profession.

For instance, in California, the PBFC or Professional Beauty Federation of California is a watchdog for legislature that effects the professional beauty industry. It has been instrumental in changes made to licensing and inspection procedures of shops for safety and cleanliness.
