Wake Up and Smell the Coffee

A fellow blogger showed us a picture of her favorite coffee cup and it made me think about whether I have a favorite coffee cup. Well, I have two! I have a tall black mug that matches my son and daughter in-law’s dinnerware. I don’t know how it happened that I have a mug that matches their dishes, maybe my son gave it to me. I also like the red and white plaid mug that I won from a giveaway on Val’s site, Mom Knows It All.

I am not that gung ho over what type of coffee I drink. I just like the feeling of sipping a hot beverage. It makes me feel pampered to sit and drink a cup of coffee. I don’t get headaches if I don’t drink it. I will be awake all night if I drink decaf coffee in the evening. It effects my mother in-law that way too. It is supposed to prevent us from being awake but works the opposite.

I don’t like strong coffee. That means I don’t like Starbucks. It tastes burnt and bitter. I have heard that Starbucks roasts their beans at a higher temperature than normal so the beans will get roasted more quickly. In the process, some of the beans are burnt — which gives Starbucks’ coffee its bitter and burnt taste. I do like Seattle’s Best which is distributed by Starbucks.

I love the smell of coffee and especially flavored coffee. I have candles that smell like coffee. They make my whole house smell so good!

I LOVE SPRING!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pier 1 for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have I convinced you yet of how much I detest winter? One warm day has me spinning around, washing windows, dusting down cobwebs and looking for my tulips to pop up.

While hosing down my outdoor furniture, I discovered that it did not hold up very well to the elements. That is the trouble with wood, it splits and requires work to keep it nice. That doesn't make me sad though. It gives me the opportunity to visit Pier 1 and check out all the new spring arrivals. They have the most beautiful synthetic rattan seating items that can be used indoors as well. That means I can bring them in next fall and they will last longer. While my old wooden rockers would not fit with my family room furniture, Pier 1 items blend in nicely and the prices are unbeatable. I love Pier 1 because they have quality products and they display them with wall decor and rugs to give me ideas on how to make my room look nice.

And guess what?!?!

They even have Papsan furniture! I was always jealous of my friend whose mom had a wonderful Papasan chair we sat in while watching Dark Shadows after school. Now, I can have a new, modern Papasan and choose from a vast array of cushion fabrics!

Be sure to check out the upcoming Pier 1 Tweetups: Atlanta: April 5th and NYC: April 20th

Quilt Projects

I have been in a creating lull lately. I finished some large quilt projects and I think they wiped me out! My husband has been wanting me to paint a large quilt block to put up on our barn. He finally gave up and painted it himself.

I do have a baby blanket to make and I recently bought a pattern from Studio Cherie for a large travel duffle that I am getting excited to make. In the meantime, I am playing solitare and waiting for the computer repairman to work on my desktop computer. What is wrong with me?!

Worst Winter Ever!

This winter seems to have stretched out over a lifetime! I cannot remember reading as many books as I have this past winter. I suppose, I should look at that as a good thing. Janet Evanovich has kept me entertained with her books about Stephanie Plum, the crazy bounty hunter. I have also finished many quilts and purse projects this year.

If there is anything we have learned this winter, it is to be prepared. We were fortunate but others who lost power this winter found themselves going to a shelter to get warm. Our power never stayed off for long but if it does, we have a Genset generators as a backup to run our electricity. Generators are a Godsend! Some people use them all year round to run a heater or air conditioner in a cabin way back in the woods. Friends, that live south of us, have such a cabin. They can get away it all and are, actually, only 3 minutes from home. This year, their beautiful pond has attracted eagles. That would be my dream spot. I can see myself sitting beside the pond, feet up on a cooler and reading another Janet Evanovich book!

It Takes a Mess

Why is it, whenever I tackle a project, the whole house becomes a disaster. I painted my sewing room and thankfully, my husband decided that the old carpet needed to be replaced.

This is the room while he is putting in the carpet.

Here is the guest bedroom with all the stuff from the sewing room piled in it. I cannot wait to get this mess put back where it goes.
