Four Foods on Friday #50
50! Val is always thinking of questions for Four Foods on Friday on her fabulous cooking and recipe blog, Fun, Crafts and Recipes. Here are this weeks questions.
#1. Pasta. How do you tell when it’s done? Do you cook on medium or high?
I have heard that you can throw a noodle onto the ceiling and if it sticks it is done. I haven’t tried that one. I cook pasta on medium, where it is just barely boiling. I cook it as long as the package directions say. Usually it is 10 – 12 minutes.
#2. Deep frying. What kind of oil do you use? I use Wesson oil.
#3. Grilling. Do you grill on foil or directly on the grill? Hubby puts the meat directly on the grill. The grates give it that grilled flavor. (I think that is why. Who really knows? Hubby cooks, and I am not questioning his methods. LOL)
#4. Share a recipe that involves cooking something two different ways.Example, for lasagna you might fry the meat and bake the whole dish.
I like Bratwurst when it is fixed on the grill but sometimes I fry it in a little water in a frying pan. (Lame this week. No real recipe.)

I pictured walking into the kitchen with various spaghetti noodles from dinners past hanging from the ceiling! LOL I will get brats and boil them in red onions and beer (the only time it’s ever in the house) and then finish them off on the grill. Then you have some good cooked onions to pile on if you want. Mmmm.

My sisters and I when we were little would throw the spaghetti on the wall to see if it was done! ha-ha! I don’t think my mother liked it to much though.

I think if you put foil on the grill then you don’t get that good ole charcoal taste to the foods.

I wouldn’t envy your kitchen ceiling if you really did that (LOL).

The only time we put foil on the grill is if we have something that can fall thru easily, like sliced veggies. Which I’m craving now, of course…..

OMG! I’m picturing you throwing pasta up at your ceiling and cracking up!

I’m glad our son didn’t know about throwing noodles on the ceiling. I can just imagine him doing that when he was young.
lol

I’ve heard about throwing the pasta at a wall or on the ceiling, but have never tried it. If it really does stick to the ceiling, I’d have to pull out a stepladder because I’m too short to touch the ceiling otherwise!

I wouldn’t recommend cooking foods in aluminum foil. There have been some cases of linking aluminum to alzheimers and ADD. I’d stick with the grill for fish although I know it’s easier and stays moist in the foil.
