Burn Baby Burn

I just read, over on one of my favorite blogs, that the reason ranchers and farmers burn their fields is to encourage new growth. When they burn off the old dried grasses, their animals can feed on the newer sprouts of grasses quickly. I have always wondered about that. I really have. Farmers around here are always burning the grass along their fences. I think they do that to keep things looking pretty.

When we visited our daughter in Louisiana, the peanut farmers were burning the fields there. I heard that the reason for those burnings was to rid the fields of disease.

So there ya go. A little bit to ponder on.
