Remember Their Service with Quilts
Tonight’s show and tell portion of the Mountain Quiltfest my sister and I are attending was awesome. The first quilt shown was a large flag that had pictures of veterans of past wars and the war in Iraq. It was a tribute to our military forces. The woman telling about the quilt had us all choking up at the thought that went into this beautiful quilt.
There is a quilt project for our men and women who are killed in the war. A quilt is made and given to each soldier’s family as a gesture of thanks for their sacrifice. The quilt is a replica of a utilitarian cot quilt that a Union or Confederate soldier use. Measuring seven feet long, four and a half feet wide, these would be rolled up and put in a soldiers pack for use in the field.
