Blacks in Baseball
I read an article in Time Magazine that stated only 8% of major league players are black.
In 1964, at the height of the civil rights movement, Jackie Robinson published a compilation of interviews with major league players and managers about the state of integration of the game.
During that time period, I would say that was very noble of Mr. Robinson. He was taking a chance of being a target and also put his family in harms way. He must have thought it an important issue.
The game of baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The goal of baseball is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four markers called bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square known as the diamond. The baseball history traces back to early 1800s when the Americans began playing baseball on informal teams, using local rules. Alexander Joy Cartwright of New York invented the modern baseball field in 1845 and devised the first rules and regulations for the modern game of baseball. With the passages of time baseball games started being played in leagues and finally on international level.
